Government benefits for seniors and retirees

Apart from the Age Pension, there are other benefits and entitlements available…

 

Concession Cards

The following cards offer discounts and benefits to seniors, retirees, and pensioners:

Pensioner Concession Card:
– Provides discounts on utility bills, medical expenses, and public transport in some states.
– Eligibility: You must be aged 60 or over and receive the Age Pension or other payments from Centrelink.

Seniors Cards:
– Offers discounts on public transport and certain goods and services.
– Eligibility: Generally, you must be aged 60 or over and work less than 20 hours per week. Eligibility criteria may vary by state or territory.

Commonwealth Seniors Health Card:
– Provides cheaper prescriptions and medical appointments.
– Eligibility: You must be of Age Pension age, meet an income test, and not receive Centrelink payments.

 

Government Loans

If you qualify for the Age Pension, you may also be eligible for the Home Equity Access Scheme to use real estate as security, in a fortnightly loan.

You may also be eligible for advance payment, which allows you to get part of your pension payment earlier, to help cover immediate expenses.

 

 

Additionally, there may be a number of health care benefits and tax you may be eligible for.
